Olivia Faith Headband

Happy Tuesday friends! I’ve got a super simple knitted headband for you today! The skill level is beginner friendly – you really only need to know how to knit and purl. This is worked as a flat piece, so you don’t even need to know how to work in the round yet.

Most worsted weight yarns should give you about 3.25 width for the headband. If you use a slightly thicker worsted weight yarn, or a slightly thinner worsted weight yarn, your width will vary. You can change the width of the headband by adding or subtracting 4. stitches from your cast on – you want to make sure you’re both starting AND ending with K2.

Instructions:

  1. Cast on 14 stitches
  2. *Knit 2, Purl 2* across. End with Knit 2.
  3. Repeat until headband is desired length based on sizing chart.
  4. Bind off in pattern. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail for joining.
  5. Using the Whip Stitch, join ends to form a circle. Before cutting yarn, attach the 2 edges of the join toward the outside of the headband using a few stitches, to form a little gather.

For Knot:

  1. Cast on 8 stitches.
  2. Knit 1, Purl 2, Knit 2, Purl 2, Knit 1.
  3. Repeat until you have a strip about 3.5 inches long.
  4. Bind off in pattern. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail for joining.

Construction:

  • Wrap the knot around the gathered join of the headband with the ends on the inside of the headband.
  • Using the Whip Stitch, join ends of the knot to form a circle. Before cutting the yarn, weave a few stitches through both the layers of the knot and the actual headband to secure the knot to the headband.
  • Fasten off and weave in ends.
